Yixi Chen is a Designer born in Shanghai. She moved to LA in 2011 to study "Film & Television Poduction". But her passion for Fashion pushed her into creating C2H4® in 2014. The Brand name comes from "Ethylene", which is an Homophone of "Yixi" in Chinese. C2H4® is based in both Shanghai and Los Angeles, mixing west and east by doing chemicals litteraly and metaphorically.
Yixi didn't choose her path into Fashion in a traditional way, she pushes the boundaries of "Garment Designing" and push the limits of "Fashion Design Status Quo". Her inspiration mostly comes from Science and Cinema. Especially Chemistry and Science-Fiction genre.Yixi considers herself and her Team as Chemists, because of the experimental way they mix different Cultures and Medias to create New "substances". Each collection has a Science based concept embedded, presented in a unique Storyteling method.
For the launch of C2H4® x Kappa special Fall/Winter 2017 Collection "Undecayable", Yixi linked Human health and free spirits with non-corrosive substance, as a salute to Kappa's brand history and its classic sport apparels.
Yixi also had her Debut Runway Show for C2H4® SS18 " Zero Gravity" Collection, in NYFW. The Concept was based on Designing Uniforms for Hypothetical Spaceship Scientists travelling to Mars in 2082. The collection included Limited-Edition Sneakers in Collaboration with the eponym skateboard brand Vans, developed as "Ozone Generator".
In FW18, C2H4® worked with the Japanese Brand Number (N)ine in a Collection named " Potential of Ego" influenced by the "Potential of Hydrogen" in Chemistry, envisioning the Ego Value of Human. In 2018, Yixi has reconnected with her first passion, and established the Creative Company "CHEMIST CREATIONS®", which debuted a merchandise line "WORKWEAR by Chemist Creations®" and started the Production of Creative Contents for both artists and brands.
For C2H4® FW18 "System On Carbon" Collection, in a Collaboration with the prominent Digital Production Company "DIGITAL DOMAIN", CHEMIST CREATIONS® produced a short film that approaches the topic of the Relationship between Human and Machine.
