London-based designer Bobby Abley studied at Ravensbourne College before moving to LA for a year upon graduation. In LA Abley worked with designer Jeremy Scott, then moved to London to work in the design team at Alexander McQueen. Abley launched his own label in 2012, at first presenting his collection at London Fashion Week Mens as part of the Fashion East initiative, then with NEWGEN, and now with standalone shows. Abley has also shown in New York fashion week as a guest of Milk Studios.
Abley's fascination with cartoons has seen him collaborate with some of the most iconic characters from his childhood and beyond, having created collections based on The Little Mermaid, Star Wars, Spongebob Squarepants, Aladdin, Jungle Book, Teletubbies, Power Rangers, Looney Tunes, Mickey Mouse and Pokemon amongst others.
Bobby Abley's collections have been stocked at some of the best retailers nationally and internationally, including Selfridges, Dover Street Market London and New York (for which he created special installations in store in both cities), Jeffrey New York, I.T. China, Joyce, Shine, Wrong Weather and Tom Greyhound. Abley has collaborated on capsule ranges for Urban Outfitters in Europe, and I Love Choc in China. The designer has also collaborated on projects and products with Google, Absolut Pride and Barbie.
Bobby's designs have been worn by the likes of A$AP Rocky, Anne-Marie, M.I.A, Lil Yachty, Bella Hadid, Olly Alexander from Years & Years, Sofia Richie, Migos, DJ Snake, Big Sean, and Notes.
The designer achieved a lifelong ambition when he worked closely with his idol Christina Aguilera to create looks for the artist and her dancers for two sets for her recent Las Vegas residency - including the look worn by Xtina at the afterparty - a collaboration which will continue for her forthcoming European tour.
Abley has featured in publications including Love, Dazed, i-D, Hero, 10, Attitude, Gay Times, Drapers, Shortlist and The Evening Standard.
His men's and women's collection for Spring-Summer 2020 will be presented at London Fashion Week in September 2019.
